The Ultra modern Tinapa Film Studio located within the Tinapa Free Zone & Resort, Calabar, Cross River State, has been established to provide first class production and post production support services to both local and foreign film, television and music producers using the best equipment available in the industry.
Fondly referred to as “Nollywood” by industry watchers, Studio Tinapa is set to become the prime location in Nigeria and indeed the West African Region for producing Feature Films, TV Shows, TV Dramas & other related productions.
Apart from becoming a tourist destination, attracting visitors from all over the world who will be able to learn how movies are made as well as purchase souvenirs, it will be indeed the home of Nollywood and venue for annual Film festivals reminiscent of the Cannes Festival in France.
There is no gain saying the fact that despite the huge market potential of the Nigerian Film Industry with an excess of one thousand (1,000) movies a year, not much investment had been committed in this area of the economy relative to other sectors. The vibrancy so far achieved by the sheer diligence of an initially small group of creative and highly talented artists using rudimentary equipment can be greatly enhanced if the required production infrastructure is provided.
Moreover, the success and strength of any Film/Movie industry are to a large extent dependant on her distribution system which supplies not just the bulk of her capital needs, but also engages in activities that determine the tone of her standards as may be inferred from her contents and overall output.Studio Tinapa is a response to these needs, a catalyst for catapulting the Nigerian and indeed the African Film Industries to their subsequent levels.
Dream Entertainment from Hollywood and Meimad (MTVS) Studios from Israel both represented by Dream Entertainment (Nig.) Ltd. are the Technical partners to Studio Tinapa, providing technical and logistics support for the company. Dream Entertainment produces many movies in Hollywood. It has gained vast experience and professional connections with the top creators and stars of Hollywood, heart of the world's cinema industry. It now has a library of hundreds of movies that are distributed worldwide, featuring variety of mega-stars.Meimad (MTVS) Studios, one of Israel’s largest films Production Company is the owner of state of the art film studios, editing rooms and a prestigious Film academy. The Meimad (MTVS) Studios complex is the most advanced in the Middle East so far!
As part of the Technical Partnership arrangement, there will be local capacity building programme in the form of formal training and transfer of technology as well as skills within a specified period. This is intended to allow the current crop of practitioners in the Nigerian and African Film Industry to perfect their skills, while newcomers would be expected to imbibe international standards of practice from the very outset of their training.
Furthermore, there arrangements are being made for co-production and collaborations with local film producers and production companies. This is being done in conjunction with local and international marketers, the Nigerian Film & Video Censors Board, some Financial Institutions as well as other industry stakeholders. These films will be co-funded and produced based on merit after a thorough selection process by a committee comprising experts and key stakeholders in the industry. Thus this complex and its advanced infrastructure will make it possible to produce more movies with larger budgets. The outcome of these would be that Nigeria will turn into the heart of African culture and mouthpiece of African culture worldwide!
Studio Tinapa has invested in the procurement of top of the range High Definition (HD) Production and Post Production Equipment and will train personnel to operate them under the training programme earlier described. 35mm celluloid production equipment is also available for filmmakers who wish to film in this format. The facility also provides tele-scenic services, giving the option for transcribing video to film, and allowing the flexibility of theatrical 35/16mm based cinemas. This will provide the long awaited solution to the nagging difficulties of Nigerian produced films being released and shown worldwide.
